Built during the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire, it showcases the architectural grandeur of that era with detailed granite sculptures and ornate pillars. The temple complex includes a Garuda mandapa designed like a chariot with rotating granite wheels, similar to the famous stone chariot at the Vittala Temple in Hampi. The temple also features a Thulabharam pillar and beautifully carved depictions from Hindu epics such as the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagavata Purana​.
